PROFILE
This is to advertise my services as a professional translator (French and German to English). Simply replacing words with words is never a sensible idea, but I know how true it is that producing professional quality translations goes far beyond just being able to re-phrase things aptly and coherently. EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Professional experience at the time of the last update: 9 years. I can translate 4,000 words in a day (sometimes more) if I’m available all day (I usually am). By default, I charge per word in the source material – anywhere between 0.05-0.08 Euros/word depending on the difficulty and urgency of the project. Proofreading: no less than 0.03 Euros/word.

I have a record of in-depth translation study and experience from a postgraduate degree course in translation studies at the University of Portsmouth (2005-2006).

WORK EXPERIENCE
I have completed translation projects in the following areas (this is by no means an extensive list):

* Business and legal (in my case formal correspondence; b2b stuff, like tenders, business-to-customer or visa versa; propositions involving national and international authorities; terms and conditions articles; contracts and leases among other things)
* IT / technical (in my case a patent and technical drawings, instruction manuals, safety regulations among other things)
* Medical (in my case patients’ reports – I have already translated many of these for the Ministry of Defence)

My approach to translation
Just because a sentence may fully obey all the various rules of its language does not mean that it really makes sense (for the sake of example, this is a true statement seen in a job application covering letter: “I am fascinated by fire.”). I’m concerned with loyalty to the original text as well as “proper language”.

• Previous position
Bilingual Freelance Software Functionality Tester
Babel Media £6.50 p/h
I tested foreign language versions of new release computer games, checking for text errors including mistranslations, and providing correction suggestions on a LAN using special software. The position required above all a commitment to quality and an eye for detail. I worked to deadlines – we kept in touch by email on Microsoft Outlook.

• Other prior experience
Having finished university, I decided that I should begin my career by gaining a record of vocational experience from temporary work positions, including the following:

Faxing and assuming responsibility for paperwork pertaining to clients’ deliveries. I was effectively one of many responsible for data management. I was faced with a great deal of routine work every day, which I undertook quite happily (and patiently).

In a nutshell, I was responsible for data management and updating as I spent the day updating information on a computer as I talked to business clients on the phone.

Je voudrais annoncer mon service de traducteur professionnel (le français et l’allemand vers l’anglais). Le simple remplacement de mots par des mots n’est jamais une idée sensible ; mais la production de traductions de qualité professionnelle va absolument au-delà de l’invention apte de nouvelles phrases cohérentes où il le faut. Comment je m’approche de la traduction
Une phrase toute grammaticalement correcte ne fait pas toujours du sens même si le concept à qu’il se réfère est facile à suivre ou à saisir. Je me concerne avec la loyauté au texte original aussi bien que « le bon langage ».

J’ai testé de versions étrangères de nouveaux jeux vidéo, tout en cherchant des erreurs de texte (incluant traductions mauvaises) ; et je fournirais des suggestions de correction sur un réseau local tout en utilisant un logiciel particulier. Il a fallu avant tout de la dédication à la qualité et un oeil pour le détail. On travaillait contre délais, et on gardait en contact par email sur Microsoft Outlook.

AUSBILDUNG UND TRAINING

Wie ich Übersetzung herantrete
Voll grammatisch korrekte Sätze machen nicht immer Sinn und beweisen nicht immer auf Konzepte, die man einfach (wenn je) folgen oder verstehen kann. Für mich ist Treue zum originalen Text genauso wichtig als „gute Sprache“.

Ich prüfte fremdsprachliche Versionen neuer Computerspielen. Dabei suchte ich Textfehler (auch Übersetzungsfehler) und gab Verbesserungsvorschläge in ein lokales Netzwerk ein mit sonderem Software. Ich müsste Widmung zur Qualität und ein Auge für Einzelheiten üben. Es war Fristarbeit. Wir hielten Kontakt zwischeneinander mit Microsoft Outlook.

• Andere frühere Erfahrung
Nach meiner Universitätszeit war das erste Schritt meiner Karriere eine Geschichte von beruflicher Erfahrung aus Kontraktrollen aufzubauen, wie folgendes:
